Use your shell jacket as an outer layer and adjust what you wear underneath according to temperature and activity. When it's warm out or when you're sweating a lot, a t-shirt in a moisture-wicking and quick-drying material is often enough. But in winter, or when you're not doing activities that are as intense, you may need to add an insulating mid-layer.
