RR's top picks for waterproof clothing

Waterproof rating and DWR treatments

Water Pillar (WP)

Water pillar describes the water pressure in millimeters that a fabric can handle before the water penetrates the material. Imagine placing a glass tube on top of a garment and filling it with water. When you have filled the tube up to 15,000 mm, ie 15 meters, and the water passes through the fabric, then the garment has a WP of 15,000 mm.

All of our waterproof garments are marked with water pillars so you can easily get an overview of how waterproof the particular garment is. It is a certificate for you as a customer that the garment's fabric has been tested for its water resistance. RevolutionRace also tests all waterproof gear out in nature to ensure functionality in all seasons and weathers.

100% PFC-free DWR

RevolutionRace uses a 100% PFC-free DWR in all products. DWR stands for Durable Water Repellent. The treatment prevents the fabric from getting soaked and feeling heavy, cold and affecting its performance. The DWR causes the water to bead up and, run off the garment. In the long run, the DWR treatment can be affected by wear, dirt and body fluids, which is the reason why waterproof breathable garments needs to be re-impregnated. If you notice that your garment absorbs water, we recommend you to wash and tumble dry your garment to reactivate the DWR treatment. Once in a while we recommend  you to re-impregnate the garment with RevolutionRace Heat Wax

How to waterproof your clothes

Tips for rainy days

icon-checkmark.svg Ventilation and breathability

Keep in mind that sweat is also moisture that cools the body and can dampen the mood on any hike. The highest water column is not always the most important thing if you are going to move around, it is also important to have clothes that breathe. Find the balance that suits you and your activity.

icon-checkmark.svg Taped seams

Choose outerwear with taped seams and water-resistant zippers. The seams and zippers are places where water will leak trough if they are not sealed.

icon-checkmark.svg A good sized hood

A good sized hood is your best friend in case of heavy rain. Choose a hood that is slightly over sized for better protection. An adjustable hood is good for better fit. Wear a cap for extra protection.
